So perhaps I wasn’t involved in a seance gone wrong (just thinking about it is sending my mother into shock), but I did throw up a little bit of information into a form on The Darkside, a site that Sony Ericsson devised to market their new W595 mobile phones. You can decide to send the YouTube link via Facebook or email. Not only is it fun but even smarter, Sony Ericsson also tacked on a great contest meant to take the videos viral. The user who manages to get the most hits on their YouTube video will win a new Sony Ericssson W595.
What makes this campaign different is the on-the-fly video creation, personalizing videos with names and information to help with the “trick.” Users can send the video around via Facebook application or have an email sent to their contacts. Since the video is hosted on YouTube you can also just use the embed code for Websites or use the link to send to friends and family. All in all, pretty damn slick integration of old school (email) and new school (YouTube/Facebook) Web technologies. Plus it’s just fun.
The W595 is due out in Q4 2008.
